Overview

Overdigital (overdigital.ai) is a personal blog run by Jens Loeffler covering generative AI, machine learning, and digital technology. This policy explains what data is collected when you visit this site, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

This site does not sell your personal data to third parties. It does not run advertising networks, affiliate tracking, or behavioral retargeting.

Data We Collect

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

With your consent, this site uses Google Analytics 4 (property ID: G-JGVPD5MDV6) to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics collects:

Pages viewed and time spent on each page

Server Logs

Like all web servers, this site's hosting provider (DigitalOcean) automatically records standard HTTP request logs, which include:

Your IP address
Date and time of your request
The URL you requested
HTTP status code returned
Browser User-Agent string
Referring URL (if applicable)

These logs are used solely for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and diagnosing technical issues. They are retained for a maximum of 30 days and are not shared with third parties. IP addresses are not linked to individual identities.

Browser Storage (No Cookies from This Site)

This site stores two small preferences in your browser's localStorage — not cookies — to improve your experience:

Theme preference (theme): whether you prefer dark or light mode
Cookie consent choice (cookieConsent): whether you have accepted or declined analytics cookies

These values never leave your device and are not transmitted to any server. They can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Search Queries

When you use the search on the Archive page, your query is sent as a URL parameter (e.g., /archive?q=your+search). This query may appear in server logs as part of the request URL. Queries are not stored in a database or linked to your identity.

Cookies

This site itself sets no cookies. The only cookies that may be present are Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*), and only if you explicitly accept analytics via the consent banner.

Third-Party Services

The following third-party services are used:

Google Analytics 4 — analytics (consent-gated, see above)
DigitalOcean — hosting provider (New York datacenter). DigitalOcean Privacy Policy

No social media tracking pixels, advertising networks, or affiliate tracking scripts are present on this site.

Your Rights

GDPR (European Union / EEA Visitors)

The legal basis for processing analytics data is your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Server logs are processed under legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for security and abuse prevention.

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

Right to know — what personal information is collected and how it is used
Right to delete — request deletion of personal information
Right to opt out of sale — this site does not sell personal information
Right to non-discrimination — exercising your rights will not affect your access to the site

This site does not sell, share, or rent personal information to third parties for commercial purposes.

Data Retention

Server logs: retained for 30 days, then deleted
Google Analytics data: retained for 14 months per Google's default settings (only if consented)
Browser localStorage: persists until you clear browser data

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated occasionally. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
